Coryell County, Texas, USA

Find: 10 January 1977

Iron (IIF)

History: Calvin Perryman recovered one 4.5 kg mass on a farm road.

Petrography and Geochemistry: (M. McGehee, ASU; J. Wasson, UCLA) Metal composition determined by INAA, Ni = 107, Co = 6.2 (both mg/g), Ga = 14, As = 4.3, Ir = 11 (all µg/g). Discontinuous kamacite spindles (<2 mm wide) are visible on an etched surface. The metal also contains troilite nodules (<1 mm to ~18 mm wide).

Classification: Iron IIF, plessitic octahedrite.

Specimens: A 406.3 g type specimen is on deposit at ASU. M. Jones holds the main mass.
