Writeup from MB 113:
Northwest Africa 2632 (NWA 2632) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2004 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3.15) History: Purchased by Michael Farmer in 2004 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-defined, closely-packed unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 910±300 µm, N = 27) containing devitrified glass are set in a fine-grained matrix containing kamacite (stained with secondary Fe oxides), chromite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.1±10.4, range Fa6.4-48.5, N = 19; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.03-0.59 wt.%, mean 0.16±0.12 wt.%, N = 31), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs8.6±7.0Wo1.2±1.2, range Fs1.6-25.3Wo0.3-4.2, N = 16), pigeonite (Fs8.9Wo8.1). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.21. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3.15). Petrologic subtype based on the mean and standard deviation of Cr2O3 contents in ferroan olivine per Figure 15a of Grossman and Brearley (2005). Specimens: 42.7 g including one polished thin section at BrownU; remainder with Farmer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
