Northwest Africa 2921, reclassification History: Purchased by Greg Hupé in 2005 from a Moroccan dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU; T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU) Somewhat separated, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 560±340 µm, N = 25) are set in a finer-grained matrix (~50 vol.%, orange-brown in thin section). Accessory phases are sodic plagioclase, chromite and altered troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa35.9±7.3, range Fa18.3-41.9, N = 11), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs29.9±0.1Wo0.5±0.0, range Fs29.8-30.0Wo0.5, N = 2), augite (Fs10.6±0.4Wo44.0±0.3, range Fs10.3-10.9Wo44.2-43.8, N = 2), plagioclase (Ab87.4±1.2An9.2±1.5Or3.4±0.6, range Ab86.3-88.7An10.9-7.9Or2.7-3.9, N = 3). Classification: R3 chondrite. Specimens: 20.5 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with GHupé. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
