Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 4450 (NWA 4450) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2006 Feb Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL melt rock) History: Purchased by Nelson Oakes in February 2006 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) The specimen is composed predominantly of enstatite with subordinate sodic plagioclase, and is crosscut by numerous thin goethite veinlets (red-brown in thin section). Sparse RP chondrules are present but the overall texture is microgranular and apparently highly recrystallized. Accessory phases are troilite, daubreelite, schreibersite and Si-bearing metal, plus secondary goethite (after primary metal) and minor gypsum. Geochemistry: Enstatite (Fs0.2±0.1Wo1.4±0.0, range Fs0.1-0.5Wo1.4, N = 7), plagioclase (Ab82.0±0.7An13.8±0.5Or4.3±0.2, range Ab81.5-82.5An14.1-13.4Or4.4-4.1, N = 2), kamacite (Ni 2.8-6.2 wt.%, Si 0.7-1.2 wt.%, N = 5). Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL melt rock). Paired with Al Haggounia 001 and other material from the same site. Specimens: 22.5 g including one polished thin section is at PSF; remainder with Mr. N. Oakes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
