Northwest Africa 4454 (NWA 4454) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2006 Feb Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6) History: Purchased by Nelson Oakes in February 2006 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) The specimen is almost entirely recrystallized with rare chondrule remnants. One very large, well-formed BO chondrule (apparent diameter 3.5 mm) is present in the studied thin section. Accessory phases are stained metal, chlorapatite, chromite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.4±0.1, range Fa19.2-19.5, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.9±0.2Wo1.3±0.2, range Fs16.7-17.4Wo0.9-1.5, N = 8). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6). Specimens: 22 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. N. Oakes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
