Northwest Africa 4764 (NWA 4764) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2007 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock partly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: Unbrecciated, coarse-grained specimen with granular texture. Main minerals are up to 800 µm sized exsolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, chromite, FeS, and ilmenite. No metallic iron was found. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs59.0±1.3Wo3.2±1.9 (Fs56.2-60.1Wo1.7-7.7, FeO/MnO=28-30, n=13); Ca-pyroxene: Fs25.9±0.7Wo43.4±0.9 (Fs24.8-27.0Wo42.0-45.0, FeO/MnO=27-32, n=12); calcic plagioclase: An90.1±0.5 (An89.4-91.1, n=14) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
