Northwest Africa 4837 (NWA 4837) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2006 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3) History: Purchased by Marcin Cimała in 2006 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU; T. Bunch and J. Wittke, NAU) Well-formed chondrules (apparent diameter 980±340 µm, N = 23) and CAI (both very fine grained and relatively coarse grained) are set in a fine grained matrix (~50 vol.%, deep red-brown in thin section). Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa15.3±17.3, range Fa2.3-45.7, N = 9), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs1.0±0.2Wo1.0±0.1, range Fs0.7-1.1Wo0.8-1.1, N = 3), subcalcic augite (Fs0.9Wo28.4), diopside (Fs1.1Wo37.8). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Specimens: 20.2 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. M. Cimała. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
