Writeup from MB 108:

Northwest Africa 4902 (NWA 4902)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2007

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EH melt rock)

History: The meteorite was purchased in 2007 from a local meteorite dealer in Rissani, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Brownish individual without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is an enstatite melt-rock composed of individual, up to 1 mm sized, rounded to sub-rounded, enstatite grains supported by abundant interstitial melt. The melt is largely recrystallized to albitic feldpar and minor residual groundmass and often contains Mg-sulfide spherules. Minor phases include daubreelite, niningerite, oldhamite, schreibersite, and troilite. Kamacite is Si-rich.

Geochemistry: Si in FeNi-metal is about 4.3 wt.% (N=8)

Classification: EH due to the presence of niningerite and the high silica content of FeNi metal.
