Northwest Africa 4905 (NWA 4905) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2007 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Quarzazate, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock largely covered with fusion crust. Petrography: Coarse-grained, unbrecciated basalt with subophitic texture predominantly composed of exsolved pyroxene and calcic plagioclase up to 1.5 mm in size. Contains abundant silica. Minor phases include chromite, FeS, and ilmenite. No metallic iron was found. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs56.9±0.1Wo6.1±0.1 (Fs56.7-57.2Wo6.0-6.2, FeO/MnO=28-31, n=7); Ca-pyroxene: Fs28.5±0.2Wo41.4±0.2 (Fs28.3-28.5Wo41.1-41.7, FeO/MnO=31-36, n=7); calcic plagioclase: An90.9±1.4 (An88.1-92.8, n=7) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
