Northwest Africa 4906 (NWA 4906)

Purchased: 2007

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Greyish fragment without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a dark-grayish interior and is composed of chondrules (mean diameter about 0.9 mm; up to 2 mm sized), up to 5 mm sized CAIs, and olivine amoeboids all set into a dark fine-grained matrix. Type II chondrules are absent. Some chondrules show reddish staining due to terrestrial weathering.
