Northwest Africa 4922 (NWA 4922) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2007 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Brownish fragment without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a granoblastic texture with abundant triple junctions composed of 50-300 µm sized forsteritic olivine, enstatite, augite, and sodic plagioclase grains. Accessories are troilite and kamacite. Grain boundaries are frequently decorated with iron oxides and -hydroxides. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa4.2±0.1 (Fa4.2-4.3, FeO/MnO=24±2, n=5); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs6.3±0.1Wo1.6±0.1 (Fs6.1-6.5Wo1.5-1.7, FeO/MnO=26±4, n=5); Ca-pyroxene: Fs2.4±0.1Wo44.8±0.3 (Fs2.2-2.5Wo44.2-45.1, FeO/MnO=18±7, n=5); feldspar: An8.1±1.0Ab89.8±0.9Or2.0±0.3, n=10 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
