Northwest Africa 4926 (NWA 4926) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2006 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Light-grayish to orange coloured rock partly covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a light orange interior and is a fragmental breccia composed of up to 3.5 mm sized low Ca-pyroxene grains in fine-grained clastic, related matrix. It contains euhedral to subhedral compositionally weakly zoned olivine grains. Minor phases include calcic plagioclase, chromite, FeS, and metal. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs24.1±0.2Wo3.5±0.1 (Fs23.8-24.5Wo3.4-3.6, n=7, FeO/MnO=29-30); olivine: Fa26.4±1.0 (Fa25.4-28.5, n=7, FeO/MnO=44±2); calcic plagioclase: An86.6±2.6 (An82.7-90.4, n=7) Classification: Diogenite, olivine-bearing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
