Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2)

History: The meteorite was found on blue ice west of the middle segment of Gale Escarpment in Grove Mountains by Y. Lin. The hand specimen has a kidney-like shape mostly covered by a black fusion crust. The meteorite weighs 0.76 g.

Petrography: (C. Li and G. Zhang, NAOC; A. Rubin, UCLA) The thin section displays a chondritic texture, with chondrules’ sizes ranging from 30 to 450 μm (mean value on about 30 chondrules = 90 μm). Aqueous alteration is highly developed in both chondrules and matrix. Hydrated phases, including Fe-rich serpentine and tochilinite (PCPs), are ubiquitous within the matrix. Most olivines in chondrules or fragments show a pronounced compositional zoning with Mg-rich cores and Fe-rich rims. The minor phases are kamacite, taenite, troilite and rare pentlandite. Refractory inclusions are rare and consist of anorthite and forsterite. Some grains of Ca carbonate are present in the matrix.

Geochemistry: (G. Zhang, C. Li, Z. Liu and Z. Ouyang, NAOC) Olivine composition in Chondrules or fragments is variable (Fa0.6-88.7, mean Fa31.2, n=44). Low-Ca pyroxene is predominant (En70.3-94.1, mean En74.7, Fs5.3-29.1, mean Fs23.7, Wo0.5-2.3, mean Wo1.7, n=23).
