Jiddat al Harasis 405 (JaH 405) 19° 41' 9"N, 56° 37' 26"E Al Wusta, Oman Found: 2006 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite) History: A single stone was found by Manuel Eggimann and Edwin Gnos during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Irregular stone, brecciated, 980 g Petrography: (E. Gnos, MHNGE; B. Hofmann, NMBE): Heterogeneous fine-grained (most clasts are <1 mm) breccia, variable plagioclase/pyroxene ratio in different areas. The minerals of the recrystallized fine-grained matrix and of the coarser-grained breccia clasts show the following compositional ranges: “Low-Ca pyroxene” (Fs42.5-54.9Wo1.5-9.1), indicating presence of high-Ca exsolution lamellae, plagioclase (An93.0-99.0Or0.2-1.6), chromite (Mg# = 4.1-4.9; Cr# = 76.4-81.1) and ilmenite. Metal and troilite are present in very small amounts. Geochemistry: Bulk geochemistry (pyroxene-rich area) shows MgO 14.82 wt%, CaO 6.07 wt%, Fe/Mn (wt) 33.8, mg# 0.53, Sc 32 ppm, Sm 0.82 ppm Classification: Based on petrography and bulk chemistry this meteorite is a cumulate eucrite breccia.. – Paired with JaH 404, 409, 410. Specimens: All at NMBE. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
