Jiddat al Harasis 424 (JaH 424)        19° 55' 22"N,  56° 21' 4"E

Al Wusta, Oman

Found: 2007

Classification: Ureilite

History: A single stone was found during a search for meteorites by E. Gnos, B. Hofmann, L. Huber and E. Janots.

Physical characteristics: Elongated, dark brown single stone with a mass of 160.32 g, no fusion crust preserved.

Petrography: (E. Janots, IfP; E. Gnos, MHNGE; B. Hofmann, NMBE): The stone consists of olivine and pyroxene with characteristic ureilitic texture. Carbon platelets (to 0.8 mm length) consisting of graphite and diamond are abundant along grain boundaries of olivine and pyroxene. Compositional ranges of silicates are Fa1.8-21.6 and Fs3.6-18.8Wo1.2-7.5. Olivine shows reduced rims (nearly pure forsterite) with minute inclusions of Fe metal (mostly weathered). Similar reduced rims are observed in pyroxene (opx Fs5.0Wo1.2). Shock stage is S2 based on (annealed?) silicates, diamond indicates higher shock level reached during an earlier collisional event. Metal and troilite are largely weathered. This stone is possibly paired with Hajmah (a), direct comparison of thin sections shows identical texture, color and degree of weathering.

Classification: Ureilite.

Specimens: All at NMBE.
