Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 5245 (NWA 5245)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2007

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Three brownish fragments without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is composed of well defined, partly flattened separated chondrules (mean diameter about 400 µm) embedded into abundant matrix dominated by ferroan olivine. Compositionally unequilibrated olivine and pyroxene occur in chondrules and as single mineral grains in the matrix. Minor phases include Ca-pyroxene, sodic plagioclase, Ti-bearing chromite, pyrrhotite, and pentlandite. No metal has been detected. The meteorite appears unbrecciated.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa23.1±14.0 (Fa0.6-37.0, n=25); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs18.1±6.3Wo1.4±1.2 (Fs8.7-26.7Wo0.3-4.3, n=19); Ca-pyroxene: Fs8.2±1.5Wo32.9±6.1 (Fs6.2-10.2Wo23.1-44.8, n=11); feldspar: An4.1-7.7Ab87.4-90.3Or4.0-6.4, n=8
