Northwest Africa 5267 (NWA 5267) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2006 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Five dark grayish fragments without fusion crust. Petrography: Achondritic breccia composed of up to 3 mm coarse-grained gabbroic and basaltic clasts set into a fine-grained clastic matrix with domains of recrystallized mesostasis. Main minerals are exsolved proxene and often lath-shaped calcic plagioclase up to 700 µm in size. Minor phases include silica, chromite, ilmenite, and FeS. No metallic iron detected. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene host to exsolution lamellae: Fs55.8±0.3Wo2.5±0.1 (Fs55.3-56.2Wo2.4-2.7, n=7, FeO/MnO=31-33); augite exsolution lamellae: Fs25.6±0.2Wo41.8±0.2 (Fs25.3-25.8Wo41.6-42.2, n=7, FeO/MnO=27-31); calcic plagioclase: An88.0±1.4 (An86.0-90.1, n=7) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
