Northwest Africa 5379 (NWA 5379) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2008 Classification: Angrite History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Small dark grayish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a protogranular texture predominantly composed of 50 to 600 µm sized Al-Ti diopside with less abundant Ca-bearing olivine, anorthite, and spinel. Spinel often poikilitically encloses rounded to subrounded pyroxene and olivine. Accessories include merrillite, kamacite, and troilite. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa43.4±0.2 (Fa43.1-43.8, CaO = 1.42±0.04 wt%, FeO/MnO=78±4, n=10); Al-Ti augite: Fs11.6±0.3Wo54.8±0.3 (Fs11.1-11.9Wo54.2-55.2, TiO2 = 2.2±0.1 wt%, Al2O3 = 10.3±0.2 wt%, FeO/MnO=84±20, n=10); spinel: Mg/(Mg+Fe) = 46.1±0.3, Al2O3 = 60.8±0.2 wt%, Cr2O3 = 2.0±0.2 wt%, n=10; anorthite: An98.8-99.2Ab0.6-1.1Or0.1-0.2, n=10 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
