Northwest Africa 5384 (NWA 5384) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2007 Classification: Primitive achondrite (Brachinite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a Morrocan meteorite dealer on the meteorite fair in Biel, Switzerland. Physical characteristics: Brownish fragment without fusion crust. Petrography: The achondrite shows a protogranular texture of dominantly olivine with subordinate orthopyroxene and augite. The silicates are compositionally equilibrated and sometimes show 120 degree triple junctions. Minor phases include chromite, kamacite, and FeS. No feldspar was observed. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa33.3±0.2, FeO/MnO=66±3, n=15; low-Ca pyroxene: Fs28.9±1.0Wo2.8±0.5, FeO/MnO=48±4, Cr2O3 = 0.72 wt%, Al2O3 = 1.02 wt%, n=11; Ca-pyroxene: Fs9.7±0.1Wo46.7±0.3, FeO/MnO=39±7, n=20 Classification: Brachinite; likely paired with NWA 5400 group members | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
