DISCOVERY OF BAGDAD IRON METEORITE, USA

Name: BAGDAD.

The place of fall or discovery:  Along Burro Creek about 20 km West Bagdad, Arizona, USA; φ = 34°32' N; λ = 113°25' W.

Date of fall or discovery: FOUND, in the spring of 1961.

Class and type: IRON, octahedrite medium.

Number of individual specimens: 1.

Total weight: 2.20 kg; semi-spherical, 10 cm diameter.

Circumstances of the fall or discovery: This meteorite was found on the surface of the desert during a mineral collecting expedition. The meteorite is in the Nininger Meteorite Collection at Arizona State University (Tempe, Arizona, USA).

Found: 1959

Classification: Iron meteorite (IIIAB)

New information received from William Stout, 3 Oct 2012. Don L. Stout and son William found a rusty mass on a jeep trail leading to small corral in the spring of 1959. The mass was found at 34°36.799’ N and 113°23.938’ W, about 0.3 miles south of Red Knob butte.
