Northwest Africa 5597 (NWA 5597) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2007 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was purchased in Outat el Hadj, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Two greyish-greenish fragments largely covered by shiny fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is a monomict breccia predominantly composed of blocky up to 3 mm sized orthoproxene grains and fine-grained cataclastic regions. Minor phases include olivine, plagioclase, chromite, and FeS. No metallic iron has been detected. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs25.4±0.2Wo2.7±0.5 (Fs24.8-25.6Wo1.8-3.2, n=11, FeO/MnO=24-26); olivine: Fa30.0±0.2 (Fa29.8-30.2, n=7, FeO/MnO=41-50); calcic plagioclase: An87.1±0.7 (An86.3-87.4, n=10) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
