Northwest Africa 5924 (NWA 5924)

Purchased: 2009

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Lodranite)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Light brownish rock with some fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a coarse-grained breccia predominantly composed of up to 1.5 mm sized angular to subrounded olivine, orthopyroxene, and clinopyroxene grains. Minor phases include FeNi metal, troilite, and chromite. Some veins filled with secondary calcite are present. No plagioclase detected.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa10.9±0.1, FeO/MnO=26±2, n=13; low-Ca pyroxene: Fs9.5±0.4Wo1.5±0.3, FeO/MnO=14±1, n=15; Ca-pyroxene: Fs3.8±0.2Wo44.8±0.7, FeO/MnO=9±1, Cr2O3 = 0.97 wt%, n=15
