Northwest Africa 6001 (NWA 6001)

Purchased: 2009 Aug

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: Purchased from a mineral dealer in Erfoud, Morocco

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Abundant chondrules set into a dark gray, fine-grained matrix. Many chondrules show orange to brown colors due to terrestrial staining. Mean apparent chondrule size 1.1±0.6 mm (0.3-4.3 mm; n=48). Several CAIs with irregular and spherical shapes occur, with apparent sizes up to 2.8 mm.
