Writeup from MB 102:

Northwest Africa 6082 (NWA 6082)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2008 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3)

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Relatively metal-poor specimen containing well-formed, fairly large ( to 1 mm) chondrules. The content of metal (+ minor Fe hydroxide) = 2 vol%. Minerals are olivine, low-Ca pyroxene, subcalcic augite, sodic plagioclase, altered kamacite, chromite, iron phosphide, troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa13.0-59.3; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.04-0.08 wt.%, mean 0.06, s.d. 0.01, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs1.2-19.5Wo0.5-6.0), subcalcic augite (Fs23.7-39.6Wo26.7-31.6). Oxygen isotopes (D. Rumble, CIW): analyses of acid-washed subsamples by laser fluorination gave δ18O 5.91, 5.99; δ17O 3.84, 3.82; Δ17O 0.730, 0.669 per mil.

Classification: Chondrite (LL3.5). Subtype estimated to be 3.5 based on Cr2O3 range in ferroan olivine. Estimation of subtype based on histograms (Fig. 4) in Grossman and Brearley (2005).
