Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 6212 (NWA 6212)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2008 Feb

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3-4)

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Genomict ordinary chondrite breccia with low amounts of Fe-Ni metal. The investigated sample contains clasts of petrologic type 4, embedded in high amounts of fine-grained clastic matrix. The latter is composed of unequilibrated and equilibrated chondritic components.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean compositions of olivine and low-Ca pyroxene in the various lithologies: Clastic matrix: Fa21.5±10.2 (Fa2.1-30.8); n=15; Fs13.2±7.6Wo0.4±0.4 (Fs2.3-24.6Wo0.0-1.8); n=19. Type 4 clast: Fa30.5±0.4 (Fa29.5-31.1) n=20; Fs14.7±6.5Wo0.6±0.4 (Fs6.0-23.6Wo0.2-1.7; n=17).

Classification: LL chondrite, based on the olivine composition in the type 4 clast and the low metal content. Petrologic type of the clast based on the equilibrated state of olivine and unequilibrated state of low-Ca pyroxene.
