Northwest Africa 6473 (NWA 6473) Northwest Africa Purchased: 2010 Sep Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3) Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Fresh specimen composed of numerous small (<0.3 mm) chondrules in a dark matrix. Minerals are olivine, orthopyroxene, augite, chromite, kamacite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa0.7-61.1, Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.10-0.35 wt.%, mean 0.19, s.d. 0.09, N = 7), orthopyroxene (Fs1.3-33.3Wo0.9-2.0), augite (Fs1.0-1.1Wo41.1-43.5). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3.2). Subtype estimated to be 3.2 based on Cr2O3 range in ferroan olivine. Estimation of subtype based on histograms (Fig. 5) in Grossman and Brearley (2005). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
