Northwest Africa 6491 (NWA 6491) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: Summer 2004 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-5) History: Two pieces of the meteorite were donated to Cascadia on February 24, 2006. Physical characteristics: Exterior has a brownish, waxy fusion crust that appears weakly weathered. The interior is brownish-red, with black to light-brown chondritic-textured clasts. Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-5) Specimens: Type specimens available at Cascadia include 3 pieces that add to 20.6 g, 3 polished thin sections, and one mounted butt. Thompson holds the main mass, which now weighs 785 g. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
