Bouanane 31°59’N, 3°12’W Morocco Found: 2009 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6) History: P. Thomas (St-André en Vivarais France) acquired this stone and visited the camp site to take GPS coordinates Physical characteristics: A single stone showing 20% fusion crust, with signs of repeated hammering on its edges plus a central hole made by percussion. Identified by a specialist of lithic tools (H. de Lumley, MNHNP) as a hammer and anvil of probable Neolithic age. Petrography: The degree of weathering was determined on a 3 cm deep core but seems quite homogeneous, supporting, together with surface state, a rather young terrestrial age unless Neolithic use was followed by sheltering preventing atmospheric alteration. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
