Northwest Africa 6824 (NWA 6824)

Purchased: 2010

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Eighteen greyish fragments some of which almost completely covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: Carbonaceous chondrite composed of up separated well-defined chondrules (mean diamter about 1.0 mm), CAIs (up to 4 mm), and olivine amoeboids all set into a fine-grained almost brownish to black matrix. Type II chondrules are absent. Several chondrules show reddish staining due to terrestrial weathering.
