Northwest Africa 6830 (NWA 6830) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2009 Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: The meteorite was purchased in 2009 from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Five greyish fragmentsl with some fusion crust. Petrography: Orthopyroxenite predominantly composed of blocky up to 1 mm sized orthopyroxenes grains, few olivines, and interstitial plagioclase. Minor phases include silica, troilite, and metallic iron. Geochemistry: orthopyroxene: Fs24.9±0.3Wo2.2±0.2 (Fs24.4-25.6Wo1.7-2.6, n=30, FeO/MnO=25-29); FeO/MnO in olivine: 37-42; calcic plagioclase: An78.5±6.2 (An66.5-84.8, n=22) Classification: diogenite (olivine-bearing) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
