Northwest Africa 6848 (NWA 6848) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2011 Classification: R5-6 History: The meteorite was purchased in 2011 from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Many small fragments partly to completely covered with fusion crust Petrography: The meteorite is a breccia with up to 6 mm sized light coloured lithic fragments of petrological type 5 set into a fine-grained clastic groundmass of type 6. Ferroan olivine is the dominant mineral phase in clasts and matrix. Minor phases include albitic feldspar, low-Ca pyroxene, chromite, pentlandite and pyrrhotite. FeNi metal is virtually absent. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
