Writeup from MB 102:
Northwest Africa 6910 (NWA 6910) Northwest Africa Purchased: 2009 Sep Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3.3) Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Well formed, fairly large (to 0.7 mm) closely packed chondrules in a very dark matrix containing a moderate amount of metal. Minerals are olivine, orthopyroxene, augite, subcalcic augite, sodic plagioclase, chromite, partly altered kamacite, troilite and taenite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa0.4-39.2; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine = 0.02-0.33 wt.%, mean 0.12 wt.%, s.d. 0.12, N = 9), orthopyroxene (Fs1.2-7.4Wo0.5-0.6), augite (Fs6.4Wo36.1), subcalcic augite (Fs21.0Wo29.5). log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 4.93. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3.3). Subtype estimated to be 3.3 based on Cr2O3 range in ferroan olivine. Estimation of subtype based on histograms (Fig. 4) in Grossman and Brearley (2005). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
