DISCOVERY OF THE COCKBURN, AUSTRALIA, STONY METEORITE Name: COCKBURN Place of find: Near Cockbum-Egebek road where it crosses Ophara Creek, approximately six miles southeast of Cockburn, South Australia; the place of find is just inside New South Wales. 32°08'S, 141°02'E. Date of find: 1946 Class and type: Stone. Olivine-hypersthene chondrite (L6). Number of individual specimens: 8 Total weight: 2.46 kg Circumstances of find: The first piece, weighing 10 g, was found by Mr. J. E. Johnson of the Mines Department of South Australia. Repeated collecting has resulted in the finding of additional pieces, including one of 2.207 kg by Dr. B. Mason in July 1973. Source: J. E. Johnson and D. H. McColl. 1967.
