Northwest Africa 6964 (NWA 6964)

Purchased: 2011

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: The meteorite was purchased in 2011 from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Physical characteristics: 41 up to 2 cm sized individuals most of which partly to completely covered by fusion crust.

Petrography: Monomict basaltic breccia predominantly composed of up to 400 µm sized exsolved pyroxenes and often lath-shaped calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include FeS, chromite, ilmenite, and silica. No metallic iron was found. The meteorite contains impact melt veins.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs59.9±0.7Wo2.6±0.8 (Fs58.1-60.6Wo1.8-4.4, n=15, FeO/MnO=29-31); Ca-pyroxene: Fs26.5±0.4Wo43.7±0.6 (Fs25.7-27.5Wo42.1-44.5, n=30, FeO/MnO=26-34); calcic plagioclase: An90.1±0.6 (An89.1-91.6, n=15)
