Northwest Africa 7078 (NWA 7078)

Purchased: 2011

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL7)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Sixty one small brownish fragments some with minor fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a highly recrystallized texture with abundant 120° grains boundaries. Low-Ca pyroxene and feldspar often poikilitically enclose rounded olivine grains. Grain sizes vary from 30 to 200 µm. Minor phases include troilite, chromite, and merrillite. FeNi metal is rare. No relict chondrules detected.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa28.1±0.2 (Fa27.9-28.4, n=7); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs23.2±0.2Wo3.4±0.4 (Fs23.0-23.5Wo2.8-3.9, n=10); Ca-pyroxene: Fs11.7±0.5Wo39.3±0.6 (Fs10.9-12.6Wo38.1-40.0, n=7); feldspar: An8.7-18.0Ab78.7-86.0Or3.1-5.9, n=6
