Writeup from MB 100:

Northwest Africa 7033 (NWA 7033)

Morocco

Found: 2011

Classification: H4-melt breccia

History: Purchased by Matt Morgan at the Denver Gem and Mineral Show, 2011.

Physical characteristics: Cut surface shows numerous small metallic globules set in dark matrix.

Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination shows clast-poor melt possessing a diffuse contact boundary with shocked remnant host chondrite. Globules of Fe-Ni metal+sulfide (to 500 μm) are dispersed in the quenched melt. Chondrite host contains chondrules, clasts, and shocked H4 silicates.

Geochemistry: (C. Agee and N. Wilson, UNM) Olivine and pyroxene geochemistry is from the chondrite portion. Olivine Fa19.6±1.2, Fe/Mn=41±4, n=6. Orthopyroxene Fs18.0±2.1Wo1.5±0.2, Fe/Mn=25±5, n=9.

Classification: H4-melt breccia, mean and standard deviation of Fa and Fs contents of mafic silicates in host rock consistent with type 4. Weathering grade W2.

Specimens: 24.1 g on deposit at UNM. MtMorgan holds the main mass.
