Northwest Africa 7209 (NWA 7209) Morocco Purchased: Feb 2008 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3) History: Samples were found in Morocco and sent to Cascadia in April 2010. Physical characteristics: Lacks fusion crust. Many chondrules visible in cut faces, most of which have dark rims. Petrography: (K. Armstrong and A. Ruzicka, Cascadia) Contains ~40 area% chondrules (diameter 0.17±0.15 mm), AOAs, sparse CAIs, and ~1% metal. Roughly 25% of metal and sulfide is replaced with secondary phases. Geochemistry: Olivine ranges Fa3.6-55.3 (N=12) but is predominantly forsteritic (Fa mean 5.5±1.5, median 5.3, N=10). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3) Specimens: Two slices (8.4 g, 11.7 g) plus one polished thin section are on deposit at Cascadia. The main mass is held by Mr. Fred Olsen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
