Writeup from MB 101:
Tin as Sawwan 32°45.630’N, 9°06.012’E Quibili, Tunisia Found: 30 Dec. 2011 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4-5) History: A single rock of 1684 g was found west of Medenine in the sandy desert area of "Tine Souane" by a German tourist during a lunch rest. Petrography: The rock is brown resulting from severe weathering. In thin section the texture is characterized as a well-consolidated breccia, with equilibrated lithologies. Most of them are of petrologic type 4 and highly recrystallized type 5 fragments are less abundant. Based on the mean olivine and low-Ca pyroxene compositions of Fa24 and Fs20, respectively, the rock is an L chondrite. It is weakly shocked (S3), as indicated by planar fractures in olivine. The weathering degree is W3. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
