Northwest Africa 7644 (NWA 7644) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2012 Dec Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated) History: Purchased by DPitt in December 2012 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Fresh unbrecciated, coarse grained, gabbroic assemblage of exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, Ti-chromite, ilmenite and troilite. Geochemistry: Host orthopyroxene (Fs57.2-57.3Wo5.4; FeO/MnO = 29-30), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs28.5-28.9Wo41.2-40.7; FeO/MnO = 29). Classification: Eucrite (gabbroic, unbrecciated). Specimens: 20.5 g of material and one polished thin section are on deposit at UWB. DPitt holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
