Northwest Africa 7647 (NWA 7647) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2012 Dec Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict) History: Purchased by DPitt in December 2012 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Polymict fragmental breccia composed mainly of eucritic crystal debris with sparse lithic eucrite clasts (recrystallized to fine grained and very fine grained aggregates). Minerals include two different types of exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, fayalite, Ti-chromite, ilmenite and rare kamacite. Geochemistry: Pigeonite 1: host orthopyroxene (Fs59.3Wo4.3; FeO/MnO = 31), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs26.6Wo43.0; FeO/MnO = 29). Pigeonite 2: host orthopyroxene (Fs38.9Wo2.2; FeO/MnO = 31), clinopyroxene exsolution lamellae (Fs14.8Wo44.4; FeO/MnO = 25). Classification: Eucrite (polymict breccia). Specimens: 4.7 g of material and one polished thin section are on deposit at UWB. DPitt holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
