Northwest Africa 8040 (NWA 8040) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2013 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4) History: Purchased by Eric Twelker in 2013 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Separated, well-formed, medium-sized (0.8-2 mm), porphyritic magnetite-bearing chondrules in a matrix containing stained Cr-bearing magnetite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa28.6-28.9, n = 3), orthopyroxene (Fs24.0-25.3Wo0.6-0.5), clinopyroxene (Fs8.3-9.7Wo47.2-45.3). Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4). Specimens: 26.8 g and one polished thin section are at UWB. The remainder is held by Twelker. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
