Northwest Africa 8326 (NWA 8326)

Purchased: Dec 2013

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite)

Physical characteristics: The eight individuals are partly to totally covered by black fusion crust and show a light greyish interior.

Petrography: The meteorite displays a pronounced cumulate texture of predominantly large orthopyroxene and plagioclase crystals. Orthopyroxene is heavily fractured and plagioclase partly converted to maskelynite due to shock. Accessory minerals include augite, SiO2 polymorphs, chromite and troilite.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs35.5±0.4Wo2.5±0.5 (Fs34.4-36.1Wo1.7-4.2, n=17), FeO/MnO: 26-32; Ca-pyroxene: Fs14.9±0.2Wo43.8±0.2 (Fs14.6-15.1Wo43.5-44, n=10), FeO/MnO: 22-26; clacic plagioclase: An84.4±1 (An83.2-86.3, n=12)
