Northwest Africa 8364 (NWA 8364)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2013 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Purchased by John Higgins in June 2013 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Very closely packed, medium-sized chondrules (1.2±0.6 mm) with very little matrix.

Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa11.0-38.9; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.03-0.14 wt.%, N = 6; orthopyroxene, Fs5.4-18.3Wo0.3-0.7, N = 3; clinopyroxene, Fs7.5-8.8Wo37.0-37.2; sodic plagioclase, chromite, troilite and altered kamacite.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3).

Specimens: 25.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB. The remainder is held by Mr. J. Higgins.
