Writeup from MB 103:

Northwest Africa 8370 (NWA 8370)

Morocco

Found: 2011

Classification: Iron meteorite (IIIAB)

History: Found in 2011 in Morocco and purchased by DPitt.

Physical characteristics: Complete specimen with regmaglypts. Minor weathering. No oxidition on outer surface, probably reflecting natural sandblasting; the buried surface possesses a deep ocher patina.

Petrography: Heavily shocked and cross-hatched medium octahedrite. Bandwidth 1.1±0.2 mm. The cross hatching of the kamacite is very prominent. One small (0.7 × 2.5 mm) FeS grain, close to a shear(?) zone cutting across a corner of the section, seems to have survived intact.

Geochemistry: Composition: 5.26 mg/g Co, 84.4mg/g Ni, 21.4 μg/g Ga, 9.9 μg/g As, 5.9 μg/g Ir, and 1.19 μg/g Au.

Classification: Bandwidth and position on Co-Au and Ga-Au diagrams indicate classification as IIIAB.

Specimens: This iron can be resolved from all other IIIAB irons in the UCLA data base. Among the twenty irons closest in Au and Co there are no other NWA irons.
