Northwest Africa 8380 (NWA 8380) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2014 Mar 26 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5) Petrography: The meteorite is composed of few clearly discernible chondrules (mostly porphyritic olivine-pyroxene) set into abundant fine-grained matrix. Fe-rich olivine is the dominant mineral phase. Minor phases include low-Ca pyroxene, augite, plagioclase, and Cr-bearing magnetite; metal is virtually absent. Geochemistry: magnetite contains up to 5.6 wt.% Cr2O3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
