Northwest Africa 8445 (NWA 8445)

Purchased: 2014

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3)

History: Purchased in Morocco in 2014

Physical characteristics: A single crusted stone. Cut surface reveals abundant brownish chondrules up to 4 mm, and CAI up to 5 mm set in a dark matrix.

Petrography: Chondrules and CAIs set in a fine-grained matrix. Chondrule:matrix ratio is about 1:1. Chondrule mean apparent size 1.1±0.1 mm (n=25). Dusty olivines present.

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa3.3±2.7 (PMD=72%, n=11, range 0.5-8.5). Orthopyroxene Fs3.0±3.7 (PMD=91%, n=6, range 0.7-11.1). Magnetic susceptibility log χ = 4.64 (χ in 10-9 m3/kg)

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CV3). Severe weathering.

Specimens: 9.9 g and a polished section in CEREGE. Main mass with Pierre-Marie Pelé
