Northwest Africa 8543 (NWA 8543) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2013 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4) History: Purchased by Brahim Tahiri from a Moroccan hunter and sent to his partner Sean Tutorow for classification, April 2013. Physical characteristics: Three matching stones 73.7 g, 48.2 g, 27.1 g, weathered exterior, saw cut reveals chondrules and fine-grained metal/sulfide set in a gray groundmass. Petrography: (C. Agee, UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows numerous distinct chondrules and plagioclase grains <2 μm, FeNi metal, troilite, Fe-oxide, Cl-rich apatite. Geochemistry: (C. Agee and N. Muttik, UNM) Olivine Fa28.4±1.3, Fe/Mn=56±3, n=7; low-Ca pyroxene Fs20.9±5.4Wo1.4±0.8, Fe/Mn=31±6, n=6. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL4), weathering grade W2. Specimens: 20.9 g including a probe mount on deposit at UNM, S. Tutorow holds the main mass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
