Northwest Africa 8624 (NWA 8624) Morocco Purchased: 2014 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R5) History: Purchased in 2014 in Layoune Physical characteristics: Six crusted stones. Cut surface reveals a dark interior with light chondrules. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrules in a recrystallized matrix (about 1:1). Chondrule mean size 580±180 μm. Olivine is the dominant silicate. Plagioclase in matrix is up to 50 μm but typically 20-30 μm. Opaques are mainly sulfides. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa 39.6±0.0 (N=3), NiO 0.22±0.06 wt.%, FeO/MnO=81±1. Ca-pyroxene Fs14.0Wo42.5 (N=1). Plagioclase An8.3Ab87.7Or4.0 (N=1). Chromite Cr#=0.85 TiO2=2.2 wt.%. Magnetic susceptibility log χ =3.39 (χ in 10-9 m3/kg) Classification: R5 Specimens: 34 g in CEREGE, main mass with Labenne | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
