Writeup from MB 104:
Dhofar 1981 (Dho 1981) 18°38.252’N, 54°8.640’E Zufar, Oman Found: 2008 Feb 9 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CM2) History: Four small black individuals partly covered with matte fusion crust were found during a field trip to the Dhofar region of Oman. Petrography: The meteorite has an almost black interior and is composed of small (about 0.1-0.3 mm in diameter) chondrules, chondrule pseudomorphs and rare CAIs set into an abundant dark matrix of mainly phyllosilicates, Ca-carbonates, and pyrrhotite; poorly-characterized-phase lumps are present. Most components are surrounded by fine-grained accretionary rims. No pyroxenes were found, attesting to a rather high degree of aqueous alteration. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
