Northwest Africa 8784 (NWA 8784)

Purchased: 2014 Jan

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3)

History: Purchased by Fabien Kuntz in January 2014 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Well-formed, medium-sized chondrules (1.2±0.6 mm) in a finer grained matrix.

Geochemistry: Olivine, Fa1.0-25.9; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.03-0.08 wt.%, mean 0.04±0.02 wt.%, N = 8; orthopyroxene, Fs7.1-23.1Wo0.2-1.8, N = 3; pigeonite, Fs21.0Wo15.5; subcalcic augite, Fs13.7Wo34.1.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L3).

Specimens: 26.3 g including one polished thin section at PSF; main mass with Kuntz.
